Listen to the Running Music

Aren’t MP3 Players are the greatest invention on earth?  Okay, so there are a few other great inventions, but MP3 players are pretty darn cool!  I love to listen to music on my runs.  Not all of them mind you.  On some of my runs I just want to get out there and solve the world’s problems. And sometimes I start with my own.  I can’t tell you how many runs where the answers to my lingering question come to me so clearly.  Running just has a way of clearing my mind of all other traffic so that I can really focus on what I need to think about.

Getting back to MP3 players, those are for the days when I don’t need or want to think and there are plenty of those.  Again, my run seems to clear my mind and I just get really into my tunes.  In my running history, I’ve had the opportunity to run through a few technologie. I remember running with my Sony walkman and and how awkward it was to carry and the walkman seemed to bounce around so much - it didn’t seem to matter what kind of case I used for it. And then came the diskmans and we all thought that they would be the perfect running partner as they were much lighter than the walkmans. Well, the diskman posed a new problem as I never seemed to be able to find the elusive ”unskippable” ones.

MP3’s have all those problems solved.  They are small, convenient, great searchability, or you can just make up your own running playlist with you favorite running tunes. And you can record more songs than I will ever be able to finish listening to on any of my runs - even when marathon training!

I may never have really discovered MP3 players (or maybe not for another 5 years) if I didn’t have kids that are on the leading edge of technology.  So for any of you runners out there who haven’t discovered the world of MP3 players and just want to listen to some great songs during your run, get yourself an MP3 player and enjoy technology.

Not a Runner - Consider Fitness Walking

The average American walks for only about 1/3 of a mile every day.  However, fitness walking is a great way to lose weight, especially because it’s so available.  If you want to go swimming you have to go to a pool, change clothes, swim, change again, and go home or to work, but if you’re taking part in fitness walking all you have to do is walk out the door of your office.  Fitness walking is also an attractive exercise choice because it’s low-impact and virtually injury-free, and serves as a nice warm up for running or jogging.  Fitness walking is also easy to incorporate into any schedule, since if you walk fifteen minutes to work every morning and fifteen minutes back every evening you’ve already taken care of your exercise for the day, which will help you lose weight and stay healthy.
