Jogging to Lose Weight

Jogging is well known as one of the best exercises to burn calories.  You may burn more calories by climbing stairs, but unless you are in fabulous physical shape, you will probably be able to jog for a longer period of time than you will be able to climb stairs.  Not to say that jogging doesn’t take physical conditioning as well, but by following proper training plan, jogging to lose weight is achievable.

Let’s do the math.  A pound of body fat = 3500 calories, that’s means a deficit of 500 calories a day means a loss of one pound per week.  1000 calories a day = 2 pounds per week.

Should Our Kids be Running Marathons?

Good question and to get right to the point, from the information that I have read, their has been no conclusive evidence of long term  injuries caused by children running marathons, however…

I read a good article this morning on NYTimes.com, where the writer outlined the fact that there really are specific studies that show any harm.  As time goes by, and more children are getting into running (and by children, I’m talking under the age of 12), there have been increasing injuries.  But these are injuries caused from children physically injuring themselves, from anything from tripping and falling to grazing a branch and getting scraped.
