Nike Air – Designing Some of the Best Runners Available

Since 1979, when Nike Air made it’s debut with the Nike Tailwind running shoe, the Air technology has been used in a wide selection of Nike running shoes proving to be a very versatile shoe. The Air technology is basically “gas encapsulated in the polyurethane”. These gas filled plastic membranes are inserted in the soles of the runners to provide cushioning. Trust Nike to come up with this one.

Nike has manufactured some great “air” runners to choose from. Although, most are for the small to medium framed high mileage runner. I am a large framed runner and used the Air Pegasus for years and although I loved the shoe when it was new, I found that they just broke down to quickly for me.

Nike has also followed New Balance’s lead and success in offering widths now in some of their models. This is a great feature especially for women with wide feet.  The only choices for a wider runner were usually in the men’s models.  However, today, there are quite a few producers of running shoes that provide wider widths – Nike, New Balance, Saucony – to name a few.

A Look at Runners Using the Nike Air Technology

Air Structure Triax – this stability shoe give just the right amount of support and stabilizes your heel. As with the other runners utilizing the air technology, these running shoes are great for the high mileage runner seeking stability for medium to low arches. They have excellent cushioning and all in a lightweight package. Nike offers these in two different widths.

Air Max Moto – provides a soft ride with added stability. The Nike Air Max Moto will keep your feet cool and dry on those long runs with it’s highly breathable upper mesh. This is a durable everyday trainer that is recommended for runners with high arches.

Last but certainly not least, we have the legendary Nike Air Pegasus. This runner has been updated and is a favorite among women runners. The Air Pegasus is a great cushioned trainer for the high mileage runner with medium to high arches. This Nike comes in 2 widths. Neutral runners will get a nice comfortable ride with this shoe. It also has fantastic traction from full-length carbon rubber waffle filled outsole with targetted support and a glove like fit.

You really can’t go wrong with the air technology by Nike, so go ahead and go shopping online for the running shoe you desire. I recommend having a look at Road Runner Sports where prices are competitive with other online running stores.
