When it Comes to Nutrition - Mamma Knows Best

I love success stories, so when I read about this one about a young Canadian couple in my own back yard I had to smile and since it has to do with a product that all us runners are interested in, I thought that I would like to share the story with you.

Earl Ellingson and his 4 other active siblings remember what their mother, a health food caterer, used to give them when they were growing up to satisfy their hunger during their incredibly active lives.  It worked for them so why wouldn’t it work for the rest of the physically active population.  So, Earl and his wife Patricia, both fitness and health enthusiasts ran with the idea.  They took the family recipe for this energy bar, produced and marketed it, and are now enjoying the successes.

The energy bar, appropriately named “Elev8me” is made from a whey-fruit-nut combination.  At first they thought that the energy bar market may have been saturated, but after more research, they realized that there weren’t a lot of whole fruit bars mixed with whey protein.  “It’s not baked or coated and the fact that it isn’t cooked and uses real whole fruits and whey protein makes it different,” Ellingson said.

I have not tried Elev8me myself, so I hesitate to do a product endorsement on it.  But it definitely has sparked my interest and after consuming just one too many powerbars, I will definitely pick up a few bars of Elev8me for our active family to try.  They are currently available in almost 1,000 stores across Canada and the US, with over 80% of the sales in Canada.  Stores include London Drugs, Overwaitea and Capers.

Good luck to you - Earl and Patricia Ellingson!
